Four Trips to Kentucky
I just returned from my fourth trip on SWAP, Sharing With Appalachian People in Harlan County, Kentucky. The thing that struck me about the people is their appreciation for what they have. When you go down to Harlan you see houses that are falling apart and people struggling to feed their family. However, the people of Harlan see things very differently. They give thanks to God every day for what they have. Even if their roof is leaking, they are thankful that they have a roof over their head.
I truly believe that the people in Harlan are helping us more than we are helping them. Sure we are improving their homes but anyone can do that.
What my faith means to me:
I learned that you should be appreciative of what you have and give thanks to God for what He has done for you.
