LATIN AMERICA :Mission Montevideo

Eleven members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and one relative of a member traveled to Montevideo , Uruguay in February 2007 to meet with our partner congregation, Nuestro Salvador.

The visit was remarkable as we spent time in fellowship, prayer and worship with many of the members of Nuestro Salvador and its gifted pastor, Pastora Wilma Rommel. Our group was blessed by the presence and participation of two 8 th graders, Stacey Johnson and Rachel Stein .

New group formed. Others welcome to join!

Since returning, travelers and members of Good Shepherd's original planning task force have formed a new group, Companeros in Christ. The name intentionally is formed of both Spanish and English words to reflect the partnership between our two congregations. Janet Fystrom chairs this exciting group.

Plans are underway to develop a joint website and to travel again to Uruguay in Spring 2008. Some of the proposed goals for the trip include joint worship and learning about South American Bible Study, joint mission project in Misiones San Juan, a neighborhood-based outreach of Nuestro Salvador and a youth bible school. Longer term plans might include working with Nuestro Salvador in its lay leadership development.

Pray for our partner congregation as it struggles to root itself in the heart of secular Uruguay and rebuild independently after a “fallow period” following the end of missionary support.
