Plotting Goodness for Goodness Sake! - Is this You?

--I want to make a difference in the life of others.

--I want my faith and daily life to connect in meaningful ways.

--I view relationships as opportunities to pass on God's love.

--My personal experiences help me believe in the power of faith.

-- I receive satisfaction through quietly serving others

--I can motivate others to work together toward a common goal.

--I enjoy encouraging others to develop in their faith.

--I tend to have more faith in people than they have in themselves.

--I enjoy many friendships outside the faith community.

All of us have gifts, talents, and passions given to us by God.

What happens when we partner with others to make a difference in the world?

Answer: God's kingdom becomes a reality.

Come hear about how God's Kingdom is present right here and right now.  We don't have to wait until the afterlife to experience it.

Come and gather with others who have a shared passion to make a difference by using the gifts and talents God has given us.

Come and see what we can accomplish together!

Plotting Goodness for Goodness Sake.

Wednesday January 23 rd at 7-8 PM .

All are invited to participate.

Contact Pastor Jay Rudi for more information.  Jay.rudi@goodshepherdmpls.org Or 612-927-8849.

Marcus Borg's "The Heart of Christianity"

Join us for a Wednesday morning small group book discussion of "The Heart of Christianity," beginning November 28th , 2007 .  We will meet from 7-8 AM in the fireside room, RM 102, in the NE corner on the lower level of our church facility.

From "The Heart of Christianity" book jacket,

"World-renowned Jesus scholar Marcus J. Borg shows how we can live passionately as Christians in today's world by practicing the vital elements of Christian faith.  For the millions of people who have turned away from many traditional beliefs about God, Jesus, and the Bible, but still long for a relevant, nourishing faith, Borg shows why the Christian life can remain a transforming relationship with God. Emphasizing the critical role of daily practice in living the Christian life, he explores how prayer, worship, Sabbath, pilgrimage, and more can be experienced as authentically life-giving practices.  Borg reclaims terms and ideas once thought to be the sole province of evangelicals and fundamentalists: he shows that terms such as "born again" have real meaning for all Christians; that the "Kingdom of God" is not a bulwark against secularism but is a means of transforming society into a world that values justice and love; and that the Christian life is essentially about opening one's heart to God and to others."

Each week we will reflect on a chapter of Borg's book.  Contact Pastor Jay Rudi or John Mendesh to sign up for this small group opportunity jay.rudi@goodshepherdmpls.org , 612-927-8849 ,or John.Mendesh@genmills.com   All are invited to participate and you need not have participated in small group, Bible study, or book group before.  We have a seat waiting for you!

Lifelines: Learning Together. Growing Together
Lifelines is one of two exciting opportunities for Good Shepherd adults who seek to further their faith and grow together as a church community. The adult ministry board has developed a curriculum that incorporates speakers, discussion groups, and interactive experiences to enhance our spiritual growth and take our learning to a whole new level. Meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 a.m., on Sundays throughout the school year.

Lifeline Presentations - Sundays 9:45-10:45 in Fellowship Hall

Small Group Ministry (top)
Small Group Ministry provides a way to connect with others in a gathering of six to ten people for the purposes of growth and community.  Small groups meet regularly to study God's word, discuss how it speaks to them, and to share mutual support for one another as people of the Christian faith. Please contact Pr. Jay Rudi for current small group opportunities.

  • Bible 101: The quick, basic, big story of God, Jesus, and the birth of the church.
Pr. Jay Rudi will lead this three week series on Wednesday mornings February 20, 27, and March 5th from 10:00 to 11:00 AM . This class is for beginners or for anyone who wants to hear again some of the basics in regard to the Bible.  We'll touch on history, theology( how the people in the Bible understood God), and how the Bible is put together.  Contact Pr. Jay for more information at 612-927-8849 or jay.rudi@goodshepherdmpls.org

Free-Range Fellowship and Free-Range Family Fellowship : You see them in the Pews, but get to know them at dinner.

Are you looking to meet other people from church in a relaxed and fun way? Are you wanting a time to join others in conversation over a meal together? If you answered yes, then this group is for you.

How does it work? After signing up to be a part of this group you will have the opportunity to meet other people at three separate dinner gatherings.

There are two different options you can sign-up for:

•  Free-Range Fellowship-- which is only for adults.

•  Free-Range Family Fellowship --for those who want to include their children.

Free-Range Fellowship:
Four couples/singles (approximately 7-8 people) attend each dinner. You will host one dinner (and provide the main course), and attend two others. Of the dinners you attend, you will bring a salad to one meal, an appetizer and bread to another, and dessert to another. Because there are three meals you will only make three of the four courses over the course of the year. At each dinner you will be gathered together with different people.

Free-Range Family Fellowship:
After signing up you will have the opportunity to gather with two other families at three separate dinner gatherings during the coming school year. At each dinner you will be gathered together with different people at the host family's home or a place of their choosing. Each family will provide one course for the meal with the host providing the main course. The other two courses are salad/bread and dessert.

Details:
The meals for all Free-Range events should be simple and comfortable.

When it's your month to host, telephone each couple/ individual or family who is scheduled to come to your home, and set a date. Please find a substitute individual/couple/family if someone cannot attend.

Dinners will be held in October/November, January/February, and March/April. The host can choose which month works better to host, e.g. October or November for the first dinner.

If you are interested sign-up in the church office or contact Pastor Jay. If you have any questions, please call Pastor Jay at 612-927-8849
